Recommendations for Arranging a PC Workstation

Here’s a summary of the ergonomist-approved guidelines for creating ergonomic working arrangements. This is an important step in protecting your health. The Department of Environmental Health and Safety can be reached if you need help getting your arrangement right or have any questions on the PC workstation.

Length of use

If only one person will use the computer, the arrangement can be adjusted to accommodate their size and shape. Features such as height adjustment may not be necessary. You will need to design an arrangement that is most compatible with the needs of all users. This includes the tallest, shortest, thinnest, and broadest.

Think about how much time people will spend on the computer every day. It doesn’t matter if it takes less than a minute. You might consider an ergonomic arrangement if it takes more than one hour. You should consider an ergonomic arrangement if it takes more than four hours.

Type of PC Workstation

The majority of ergonomic guidelines for pc workstation arrangements assume you will use a desktop system with a separate keyboard and screen.

The popularity of laptop computers is increasing and they are perfect for short periods of computer use. Laptop design is a problem. The keyboard should be at the same height as the screen. Consider purchasing an external monitor or keyboard, preferably one with a tilt keyboard tray, for long-term use. Next, arrange your workspace in a way that makes it easy to work.

Desk

Place the monitor and CPU system unit IOS of your pc workstation, as well as the keyboard and mouse, on a flat surface that is stable. There should be enough space for them to move around. Use a flat surface between 28-30 inches above the ground if you plan to use this surface for writing on paper and a computer.

Attach a keyboard/mouse tray to your work surface. A height-adjustable system allows you tilt the keyboard away from your wrist (negative tilt). This allows you to use your mouse with your arms relaxed, your wrist neutral and your upper arms as close as possible to your body.

Chair

Pick a comfortable chair. A chair that is only mangasee used by one person can be set at a fixed height, provided it is comfortable and provides lumbar support. Consider purchasing a chair that has multiple ergonomic features if more than one person is using the computer.

Research shows that a relaxed posture of 100-110 degrees is the best for sitting, not the 90-degree upright posture often depicted. The Pc workstation recommended position makes the chair work for your body. There are significant decreases of postural muscle activity as well as intervertebral disc pressure in the lumbar spine. Reclining is more sustainable than erect sitting.
